Is It Time to Replace Your Furnace?

Replace Furnace?

In Florida, details about your furnace probably don’t come up too often in conversation. If you aren’t talking about it or thinking about it, odds are you might not be paying attention to the warning signs that your furnace is on its way out.

Scott’s Heating and Air Conditioning doesn’t want your family stuck in a cold house waiting for your furnace to be repaired. Here are 5 warning signs that your furnace might need a replacement.

    1. Your Furnace is Over 15 Years OldDepending on what kind of furnace you have, the average life expectancy of a furnace is between 15-20 years. Even if your furnace is still working after 15 years, it is most likely not operating at peak efficiency costing you more money each month in utility bills.Think of your furnace like a car. As time goes on, it will require more maintenance. After it hits certain milestones, it will begin to wear down.If you live in an older house or a new one, check the owner’s manual or call the manufacturer to make sure where you might be with your current furnace. Come up with a timeline and continue to maintain your system for a longer lasting unit.
    2. Increase in Your Heating BillIf you are the kind of person who doesn’t think about heating and air conditioning very often, there may be a few reasons why your bill has seen an increase. Odds are you aren’t doing regular maintenance, so the first step would be to have your local experts come by for a tune-up.If you get regular maintenance done on your heating system, then an increase in your heating bill could mean that your furnace could be running inefficiently. Check your bill over the years in the winter time and see if you see a steady incline in costs from year to year. If so, this is a big warning sign that your furnace is broken or might need to be replaced.
    3. Weird Noises are Coming From Your FurnaceDepending on where your furnace is located, you may not be around it enough to notice any weird noises. Be sure to check on it from time to time. If you hear any rattling, popping, humming, screeching or metallic sounds coming from the machine, turn it off immediately and call your local technician to assist with any repairs.Whether its unsecured ductwork, loose screws, temperature adjustments within the system or motor issues, any loud or strange sounds can be a cause of concern and should be addressed before they get worse.
    4. You Can Never Stay Comfortable in Your HomeIf you are constantly walking to your thermostat and adjusting the temperature, your central heating system is most likely running inefficiently. Older or outdated systems tend to lose their ability to distribute heat evenly throughout the house. Call your local HVAC experts to see what next steps you should take to be at ease in your own home.

  1. You Know the Name of Your Heating TechnicianWhile we like to be personal with our customers, it’s probably not a good sign that you know your local HVAC professional by name. If you are constantly shelling out money for furnace repairs, you should take that as a sign that should replace the entire unit.Your inefficient unit is costing you more money over time with repairs, escalated monthly bills and replacements. If you have had more than two furnace repairs in the past year or your repair costs are nearly 50% of total cost of replacement, you might want to bite the bullet on a new unit.

No one likes to hear that they have to spend money on a new furnace, but your wallet and family will thank you for doing it. At Scott’s Heating and Air Conditioning, we make the heating repair and replacement process easy for you. We will size your home, help you find the most economical solution and then teach you how to properly maintain your blazingly efficient furnace to last 20 or 30 years.

6/4/2026 Alan and Logan were here today to do our 6 month check up. They were on time, efficient, polite and knowledgeable. Nice to have a company I can depend on for great service. 1/20/2026: Allen and Michael from Scotts Heating and Air were just here for our 6 month maintenance on our HVAC and they were excellent. Polite, Friendly, On Time and Efficient. We greatly appreciate everyone from Scott's Heating and Air who have been to our house!! We had to have our entire HVAC replaced and Craig really worked with us to get us a fair price and arranged 1 year 0% financing. We got scheduled very quickly and Boris, the installer, could not have been better. He was exactly the type of service person we want in our house. He and his team were polite and meticulous. They cleaned up the job site when it was completed. Once the install was complete Boris was very good and explaining our system to us and left us with complete confidence of a job WELL DONE! ......... Fantastic service and was able to schedule for the next day. Anthony was thorough and explained everything he did. He was extremely polite and efficient. The receptionist who scheduled my appointment was also very polite and easy to work with. I highly recommend Scott's Heating & Air Conditioning.
